Every text field in Verso that you leave empty falls back to that style’s demo copy. This is what makes a fresh install look finished instead of blank — but it also means a live store can quietly show the demo brand’s words if a field is missed.
Before you publish, sweep every page for leftover demo copy. The demo brands mention real-sounding places — a Bermondsey railway arch, a Somerset farm, a Manchester lab — which look convincing until a customer reads them on your store.
How the fallback works
- A field with your text in it shows your text. Always.
- An empty field shows the demo copy for your active style.
- Grey placeholder text inside an empty field is a hint showing what the fallback will say — it disappears the moment you type.
The efficient sweep
-
In the theme editor, walk the home page top to bottom. Click each section, replace the headline and body fields, and check each block inside the section too — blocks have their own fields.
-
Repeat for the about page, the contact page, a product page, and a collection page. Use the page selector at the top of the editor to jump between them.
-
Do the chrome last: the announcement bar messages, the header promo card, and the footer (tagline, colophon or description, trust items, newsletter copy).
-
Preview the storefront and read it like a customer. Anything you did not write, go back and replace.
To silence a field entirely rather than replace it — for example a kicker line you do not want at all — type a single space or look for the section’s show/hide toggle. An empty field falls back; a space does not.
