Section text fields are the same for every product that uses the template. Metafields are how you give each product its own copy — origin, tasting notes, dose, evidence tag — that the theme’s product sections read automatically.
Create a metafield definition
-
In your Shopify admin, go to Settings → Custom data → Products.
-
Click Add definition. Name it (say “Tasting notes”), and set the namespace and key to exactly what the theme reads — for tasting notes that is
custom.tasting_notes. -
Choose the content type (single line text for most of these) and save.
-
Open any product and fill in the new field in the Metafields area near the bottom. The theme picks it up immediately.
Fields the theme reads
| Namespace.key | Used by |
|---|---|
custom.origin |
Verso product page origin line |
custom.tasting_notes |
Verso tasting profile panel |
custom.roast_level |
Verso roast meter |
custom.product_code |
Baseline product code chips (CM-01 style) |
custom.evidence_tag |
Baseline goal selector and ingredient evidence tags |
custom.why |
Baseline goal selector “why this product” line |
custom.dose |
Baseline dose line |
Products without a given metafield degrade gracefully — the theme falls back to your vendor, type, or description, or simply hides that line.
Only create the definitions your style actually uses. A coffee store on Verso needs the first three; a Baseline supplement store needs the last four.
