Alongside its color controls, every content section can take a full-bleed background image with a darkening overlay.
Add a background image
-
In the section’s Colors group, click Background image and pick or upload a photo. It covers the section, centered and cropped to fit.
-
Adjust Image overlay. This lays black over the image at the strength you choose — 0% shows the photo raw, the default 40% suits most photos, and higher values fade the image toward a texture.
-
Set the section’s Text color to something light (white or a warm off-white) so the copy reads over the darkened photo.
Choosing images that work
- Pick photos with a quiet area where the section’s text sits — sky, wall, table surface.
- Upload generously sized images (2000px wide or more); the theme serves scaled versions automatically.
- Busy images need a stronger overlay. If you find yourself above 60%, consider whether a plain background color tells the story better.
The overlay only applies when an image is set — it never darkens a plain background color. Remove the image and the section returns to its color or the theme default.
